As a result of the repairs performed on the bridge in the summer/fall of 2002, the bridge was restored to a safe condition and re-opened in November 2002. At a cost of $565,000 the bridge repairs included removal and replacement of weakened steel beams and overall structural rehabilitation. The Citys bridge engineers have indicated that the repairs were significant enough to ensure that the bridge can withstand up to 10 years of full traffic or nearly 100 years if bridge traffic was reduced to a pedestrian / bikes only. |

With this information in mind, the prospect of keeping the old bridge in place seems very reasonable for another 100 years of service life. |
